New transmission for Vagrant

Saturday morning with six weeks to go and I hear a noise from under the cockpit floor. Not a "normal" noise. The following Wednesday I can only get to 1400 rpm in forward while heading to the start line for the weekly race. The transmission is screwed. The options are send it away for rebuild and wait two or three months or buy a new one. A week later the new Hurth HBW-50 is sitting in a box in the cabin. Two days after that it is installed and running. Nice way to kick a couple of grand out of the cruising budget.

The blog is started the countdown is on. October 20 is the standby date. If the three day Atlantic forecast is good and there are no storms brewing off of Africa we will be on our way.
